EUCC – COOPERATIVES EUROPE
Since 1 March 2005, Cooperatives Europe has been the joint platform unifying the Actions of the ICA Europe (the Europe Region of the International Cooperatives Alliance) and of the CCACE, the Coordinating Committee of European Cooperative Associations of top business sectors and national cooperative organisations.
This integration process was started by the two organisations to use the combined strengths of each one to increase the visibility and impact of the cooperative movement, in particular towards the Institutions of the European Union. 235,000 cooperatives operating in 7 cooperative sectors with 5,485 million workers, and 140 million members within the 87 member organisations of 33 European countries join forces within Cooperatives Europe.
Mission: to be the common platform for supporting and developing cooperatives throughout Europe. This platform unifies the strength and expertise of the European Office of the ICA, ICA Europe and the Coordinating Committee of European Cooperative Associations (CCACE) to provide a mechanism for Legislative Consultation on an EU level, research and development coordinated in the European Region and services for its members.
Overall aims:
- To increase cooperative identity, visibility and image and the recognition of their specificities and added value
- To secure the recognition of the cooperatives as the main economic and social partners (social and civil dialogue, consultation by politicians) on an EU institutional level
- To develop a sturdy cooperative system in the EU and European Region
